Apartment Renovation
An art deco apartment converted into a light, bright living sanctuary with salvaged and re-purposed building materials. This apartment in East St. Kilda is nestled amongst an acre of lush garden, providing a beautiful backdrop for the living spaces. An art-deco building with individual rooms was revolutionised when walls were removed to create an efficient, functional and free flowing living sanctuary with views out to the garden.
& design solution
This apartment in East St. Kilda is nestled amongst an acre of lush garden, providing a beautiful backdrop for the living spaces. An art-deco building with individual rooms was revolutionised when walls were removed to create an efficient, functional and free flowing living sanctuary with views out to the garden. The project set out to salvage and re-purpose all materials created in the demolition process. Seventy-year-old plywood was re-purposed into the new joinery fronts and handles for the kitchen joinery, old timbers were salvaged and re-purposed into flooring and old door handles were cleaned up and reused. The outcome is a beautiful, calming living sanctuary with a patina of old.
