New School

A school entirely built of portable buildings replaced with an exemplar 21st century learning facility with strong connections to nature. The existing 200-student portable school was in poor condition and chaotically arranged.

The approach

& design solution

The existing 200-student portable school was in poor condition and chaotically arranged. Our approach involved collaborative stakeholder engagement, rigorous risk management, and innovative design solutions to deliver a project that met the school’s needs and aspirations – a cohesive master plan, clear wayfinding, strong connections to the outdoors, contemporary learning spaces suitable for diverse cohort of learners and a central gathering space. The solution is three classroom wings, each with flexible and adaptable learning environments are positioned around the building’s linchpin – a central multi-purpose gathering space, housing library, science and art functions. A veranda wraps the building providing both weather protection and connection to the outdoors through large openable windows and doors. The project achieved outstanding value for money as noted by Former Minister for Education James Merlino.
