The triangular sloping site presented both a challenge and a unique opportunity for this project. The client’s brief was to create a contextual, compact dwelling with a large central living area and north-facing outdoor living space. Our solution responds strongly to the site – hugging the site the building makes use of the site slope to create two levels. The living room, the linchpin of the house is double height and shaped to enable occupants to experience outdoor views whilst being obscured from passersby on the street. The kitchen is tucked beneath the first floor with access to a large exterior entertaining deck. Two bedrooms and a shared bathroom are located on the first floor with views to the north. A large outdoor deck is located on the north of the house making the most of the northern light and warmth.
